The end of the academic year is a time to celebrate the accomplishments of the students and faculty of Fairmont State University.

He might have desk space in the Education Building, but his true office can be found at the peak of Cooper’s Rock, the trails of the Appalachian Mountains and the depths of the Grand Canyon. For Education faculty member and Fairmont native Matt Schmuck, his passion for outdoor adventure has become his career – and students are reaping the benefits.

A reception to honor seven international students graduating from Fairmont State University is planned for noon to 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 16. The Office of International Student Services will host the event in collaboration with the International Education Committee.

In partnership with pilot schools in Marion County, Fairmont State University is developing an exciting new scholarship program for PROMISE Scholars in Marion County to be called PROMISE Beyond.

While a college education is undeniably a valuable investment, paying for college can be challenging for most families. Fairmont State University, which delivers high quality academic programs at an affordable cost, continues to meet students' needs for financial aid and to provide a unique learning environment close to home in North Central West Virginia.

When it was time for the first home FSU football game, Black Student Union members wanted to be the first make their mark for the Community Engagement Initiative. In fact, “Make Your Mark” is the theme this year for the student organization.

 Dr. Maria Rose, Fairmont State University Interim President, and Dr. Barbara Owens, Director of the Professional Development School (PDS) Partnership, hosted a congratulatory reception to honor Gary Price, newly appointed superintendent of Marion County Schools on Wednesday, Nov. 16, at the Shaw House on the main FSU campus.

Fairmont State University has been awarded a Diversity through Equity Grant from the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission to build and support diversity initiatives for students, faculty, staff and the broader Fairmont community.

Imagine a high school with no bells, yet students are engaged and on task. Imagine students taking initiative and responsibility for their own education while working and learning collaboratively in a team environment. Imagine teaching and learning that directly relates to real-world business, industry, and professional careers. Imagine high schools where students learn to be engaged, responsible citizens of their local community.
