Diversified Gas & Oil Co., the Birmingham, AL, company whose chief executive officer and co-founder is Fairmont State University graduate Rusty Hutson Jr., has committed $30,000 in scholarships over the next three years to Fairmont State students.

A new scholarship honoring the memory of lifetime Fairmont residents James V. and Ruth D. Pallotta will be available for Marion, Monongalia or Preston County students attending Fairmont State University.

Fairmont State University honored College of Liberal Arts students for their academic achievement and named scholarship recipients at the 9th Annual Academic Awards Ceremony on May 3.

Many of the awards and scholarships presented at the banquet were made possible through gifts to the Fairmont State Foundation, Inc.

The “Every Gift Matters—the Scholarship Campaign” helps students to continue their education both in and out of the classroom while also being able to gain experiences they wouldn’t otherwise have had.  Student-athlete Lake Porter of Charlston, W.Va., said scholarships give her a sense of relief knowing she is taken care of and can focus on her academics.

Fairmont State University honored School of Business students for their academic achievement and named scholarship recipients at the 2019 Scholarship and Award Presentation on April 26th.

Fairmont State University will be providing $500 scholarships to hundreds of students across the state during the Second Annual Soar Awards. Events will be held in Fairmont, Parkersburg, Winfield, Summersville, Inwood and Wheeling throughout January and February. The scholarships will help make attending Fairmont State more affordable and serve as a reminder of Fairmont State’s dedication to student success. 

Earlier this month, the Fairmont State Foundation announced a $1.3 million campaign aimed at closing the gap between two and four-year scholarships over the next 12 months. For students like Fairmont State Senior Samantha Tate, the "Every Gift Matters—the Scholarship Campaign" is a way to allow students to have experiences in and out of the classroom.

Jean Gotolski, a 1947 graduate of Fairmont State College has created a scholarship at her alma mater, in memory of J.T. and Carmer George. Through this endowed scholarship, Gotolski hopes that students can study their passions, regardless of their financial situations. 

Born in Havana, Cuba and growing up in Madrid, Spain, Fairmont State University President Dr. Mirta Martin knows firsthand the journey to success. After immigrating to the United States, she completed her undergraduate degrees in political science and psychology from Duke University and earned a master of business administration from the University of Richmond; and a doctorate with an emphasis in strategic management and leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University.
