The Fairmont State University Frank and Jane Gabor WV Folklife Center will host Dr. William Hal Gorby to commemorate an important time in West Virginia’s history through discussions around the labor struggles that led to the Battle of Blair Mountain, as the 100^th anniversary of the battle approaches. The event is free and open to the public, and will take place on Monday, August 23 at 7 p.m. at the Folklife Center.

Fairmont State University has received the ninth ranking among the 100 Best Affordable Forensic Science Programs in the country by University Headquarters. University Headquarters is an online resource aiming to help students navigate the higher education process, assisting students to find top rated colleges, scholarships, potential salaries upon graduation and determining a career path.

Fairmont State’s Feaster Center was filled with anticipation and excitement Friday afternoon when hundreds of new students gathered to officially mark the beginning of their journeys as members of the Falcon Family at the University’s annual Convocation Ceremony. 

“You have started this journey together, and you will finish this journey together,” said Fairmont State University President, Mirta M. Martin, to those in attendance.

Fairmont State University and the Tygart Valley United Way have partnered to host the Fairmont State Day of Action on Sunday, August 8. All students, employees and alumni are encouraged to participate in various service projects both on and off-campus as part of the University’s Welcome Week.

Fairmont State University administration, faculty and staff gathered Monday morning to jump start the academic year with the annual Fall Semester Opening Ceremonies and  Employee  Welcome  Breakfast. 

Fairmont State University has extended its deadline for fall enrollment to Monday, August 9. Prospective students applying to the University through August 9 are eligible to receive grants or scholarships, register for classes and apply for financial aid and the University’s COVID-19 Supplemental Aid Program.

Fairmont State University will be hosting a series of Welcome Week events for students as they arrive on campus ahead of the start of the fall 2021 semester. 

“Welcome Week will be the first program that students can experience at Fairmont State,” said Evan Fossen, Assistant Director of Student Life. “It’s a great chance to become familiar with campus and its resources, as well as meet faculty and make new friends.”  

Fairmont State will honor its inaugural cohort of U.S. Air Force Junior Reserve Officer’s Training Corps cadets at a graduation ceremony to mark the completion of their training at the University on Friday, July 30 at 3 p.m. at the Fairmont State Aviation Hangar in Bridgeport. 

The Fairmont State Foundation serves as the non-profit organization that solicits and administers private donations on behalf of Fairmont State University, and recently welcomed five new members to its Board of Directors. New Board of Directors members include Kathy Martin, K. Alex Miller, II, Chad Riley, John Wilson and Dixie Yann.

Former Fairmont State University football standout and 2013 criminal justice graduate, Perry Baker, will compete on the world’s most esteemed stage next week in the Tokyo Summer Olympics as a member of the USA Men’s Rugby Sevens Team. Baker is slated to make a second appearance in the Olympic Games after receiving the nod in 2016 and competing in the Rio Games.
