Fairmont State SGA Selling Maroon Madness T-Shirts to Benefit United Way

The Fairmont State University Student Government Association is supporting the Tygart Valley United Way, which represents Marion, Taylor, Randolph, Barbour and Tucker counties, through sales of this year’s “Maroon Madness” t-shirts.

Proceeds from the sales will benefit the “Charting a New Course” campaign, launched by the United Way earlier this month.

Fairmont State Master of Arts in Teaching Program Receives Waiver from WVDE

The Fairmont State University Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program has been granted a program waiver from the West Virginia Department of Education, allowing for students pursuing a MAT to significantly shorten their path to graduation while still maintaining the program quality necessary to produce effective teachers. Qualifying students must have a bachelor’s degree in the same concentration or content area in which they aim to teach upon completion of their degree.

Fairmont State University Science and Technology Scholarship Created in Honor of Eric W. Underwood

Sidney and Judith Underwood of Parkersburg, West Virginia have pledged $27,000 to create a scholarship in memory of their son Eric, who passed away in July of 2020.

“The generous gift from the Underwoods is greatly appreciated. Their kind remembrance of their son will have a lasting benefit to Fairmont State students,” said Fairmont State Foundation President, Gary K. Bennett.

During the fall series, authors will continue to focus on labor in West Virginia while commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Blair Mountain. Fairmont State University’s Academy for the Arts Receives Grant for K-12 Initiative

Fairmont State University’s Academy for the Arts has been awarded a $10,000 grant from the George W. Bowers Family Charitable Trust. The grant will allow the Academy for the Arts to provide scholarship opportunities to new and current Academy for the Arts K-12 students.

The aim of the Falcon Mental Health Awareness Program is to promote mental health awareness and prevention among the campus community through support programs and by enhancing existing mental health services.
