The Fairmont State Black Student Union Alumni Association has created a new scholarship in support of the student organization they serve.

Fairmont State alumna, Jennifer Kinty, has been appointed to serve on the University’s Board of Governors through June 30, 2025. Kinty has longstanding ties with the University, and previously served as the Fairmont State Foundation Board of Directors Chairwoman.

Fairmont State University has announced the COVID-19 Supplemental Aid Program to provide financial support to students for the 2021 – 2022 academic year. The University will begin distributing awards to both full and part-time students beginning September 13. Students enrolled full-time for the fall semester will be awarded $1,500, while students enrolled part-time will receive $1,000.

Fairmont State University is currently engaging in an applicant search for the alumni relations director position. Fairmont State has had great talent in the past in this position, and looks forward to continued success of the Alumni Association under the leadership of the director of alumni relations. The successful candidate will work to grow and engage the Falcon alumni network as the University transitions back to normal operations following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fairmont State University has recently been ranked among the top 100 Best Affordable Criminal Justice Programs in the country by University Headquarters. University Headquarters is an online resource aiming to help students navigate the higher education process, assisting students to find top rated colleges, scholarships, potential salaries upon graduation and determining a career path.

Even a rain delay couldn’t dampen the spirits of a group of incoming freshmen and their families as they gathered in Charleston Wednesday evening to cheer on Atlantic League baseball team, the West Virginia Power, during Fairmont State Night at the Appalachian Power Park. 

The Fairmont State Alumni Association serves as the non-profit organization that engages and works to build relationships between Fairmont State University and alumni, and has recently announced the addition of ten new board members.

Fairmont State University is extending its Welcome Wednesday on-campus orientation sessions to include four more dates throughout the summer.  

“We have hosted three Welcome Wednesday events so far, and students and their parents have told us time and time again just how happy they are to be here on campus to have this experience in person,” said Chris Sharps, Fairmont State Senior Director of Recruitment. 

Senior Jamillah (Jamie) Jimenez, a computer science student at Fairmont State University, has been spending her summer gaining valuable career experience as a member of West Virginia University Medicine's Summer 2021 Information Technology Internship class. 

The Fairmont State University Board of Governors held its first in-person, full Board meeting since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic on Thursday, June 17 in the Falcon Center.

Following committee updates, Board members Dixie Yann and John Schirripa were recognized for their service to the University’s Board of Governors as the end of their term appointments approaches on June 30.
