Students end the semester with Gatsby-era Murder Mystery Party

On Monday, May 6th, The Frank & Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center was transformed into a Jazz Age speakeasy, as students from Language and Literature attended a Gatsby-Era Murder Mystery Party to end the semester.

The party began as the finale to Dr. Sarah Rude's ENGL 2251 "Introduction to Literary Study" class which reviewed various critical approaches to F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby

Fairmont State Welcomes Second Visiting Scholar from China

Fairmont State University and the Department of Language and Literature welcome Chen Yi, as a visiting scholar from the Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University in Yangli in Xhaanxi Province, China.  Yi’s year-long residency began Wednesday, Oct. 4, according to Dr. Angela Schwer, chair of the Department of Language and Literature.

The Fairmont State University College of Liberal Arts honored its high achieving students during the fifth annual Academic Awards Ceremony at the end of the spring 2015 semester.

Dr. Deanna Shields, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts; Dr. Maria Rose, FSU President; and Bill Holmes of the Fairmont State Foundation Inc. presented greetings and congratulations to the students for their academic achievements.

Kestrel Issue 32 Launches Oct. 24 with Events Celebrating Writing

Kestrel: A Journal of Literature and Art, the Fairmont State University Department of Language and Literature and the Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center will host a two-day Celebration of Issue 32.

Seven contributors to Kestrel, including six whose work appears in Issue 32, will be on campus to participate in a panel discussion, as well as give readings from their own work.

Nine students from Fairmont State University will travel to New York from May 13-19, 2012, with Dr. Julie Sellers for the very first immersion-style experience within the borders of the United States that the university has offered.
