Closing reception to be held in celebration of Base Camp Printing exhibit Thurs., Oct. 6

On Thursday, October 6, a closing reception will be held in celebration of the Base Camp Printing exhibit currently displayed in the J.D. Brooks Gallery in Wallman Hall on the campus of Fairmont State University. The free reception will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the J.D. Brooks Gallery, and members of the campus and surrounding communities are encouraged to attend.

On Monday, August 8, Fairmont State University’s J.D. Brooks Gallery premiered an art exhibit by West Virginia printmakers, Base Camp Printing.

Base Camp Printing is comprised of two co-owners, sisters Emily and Betsy Sokolosky. The Sokoloskys are Charleston natives who run their printing business on the city’s east side. Emily initially established Base Camp Printing in May of 2016 and was joined by her older sister Betsy later that fall.

A gallery exhibition by Derek Reese, a Pittsburgh-based artist and former Fairmont State University adjunct professor, is now on display in the J.D. Brooks Gallery in Wallman Hall through February 4.

“It’s such an amazing opportunity to be able to exhibit this work at the place that gave me my start in my career,” said Reese.

Carroll Gallery. Ford's work was selected by juror Steven Matijcio, Curator of the Contemporary Arts Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Fairmont State University’s Department of Art attended the West Virginia Art Education Association conference in Morgantown in October. Faculty members Jeff Greenham and Jennifer Yerdon LeJeune staffed a mobile vendor cart and student Ty Collins presented a painting session. Yerdon LeJeune presented shaped canvas and silk screen printing sessions.
