Fairmont State University students, Peydan McVickers and Kiersten Lowdermilk, have been selected to participate in the 18^th Annual Undergraduate Research Day at the Capitol. Student participants will virtually present their abstract submissions to members of the West Virginia State Legislature and Executive Branch on Friday, March 5.

Fairmont State University has been awarded grant funding from West Virginia Science and Research, a division of the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission. The $12,806 award will support the purchase of a Forensic Comparison Microscope, a 3D Light Scanner, and hardware to run both pieces of equipment. 

Fairmont State University has been named one of the top 10 most affordable schools for Forensic Science by Affordable Schools. 

Dr. Mark Flood, Fairmont State coordinator of the Forensic Science program, said this ranking is exciting and shows the quality of the Forensic Science program while also still be affordable. 

This summer Fairmont State University’s Kristy Henson, assistant professor of forensic science, and sophomore, Alexandra Knighten, participated in a bioarchaeology excavation with the Institute for Research and Learning of Archaeology and Bioarchaeology (IRLAB).

During February’s Faculty Senate meeting, Fairmont State University’s forensic science program received approval for the creation of a Forensic and Investigative Science minor. This is only the second program of its kind in West Virginia.

Fairmont State University, in conjunction with West Virginia Wesleyan College, has been awarded $4,000 in grant funding from West Virginia Science and Research to support faculty development. The funding will allow Kristy Henson, Assistant Professor of Forensic Science at Fairmont State, and Dr. Greg Popovich, Assistant Professor of Exercise Science at West Virginia Wesleyan, to attend the Human Anatomy and Physiology Society annual meeting in Portland, Oregon in May.
