Kestrel

On November 6, 2022, Dr. Lydia Warren joined Fairmont State University as the new Director of the Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center. Warren brings experience in museums, music, and grant writing to the role. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Virginia, a Bachelor of Arts from Smith College, and an Associate of Science from Middlesex Community College. 

Kestrel: A Journal of Literature and Art and the Fairmont State University Department of Humanities are pleased to announce the publication of Kestrel 47, the Summer 2022 issue.

Fairmont State’s Kestrel: A Journal of Literature and Art will host its first in-person gathering since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic April 8 – 9 at the Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center.

Kestrel: A Journal of Literature and Art and the Fairmont State University Department of Humanities is pleased to announce the publication of the Summer 2021 issue, Kestrel 45.

Kestrel, Fairmont State University's professional literary and art journal, is delighted to announce that Stanley Patrick Stocker's short story “The List,” which appeared in Kestrel 42, has been chosen as a winner of PEN America’s 2021 Robert J. Dau Short Story Prize for Emerging Writers.  

Kestrel: A Journal of Literature and Art, the Fairmont State University Department of Language and Literature and the Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center will host a two-day Celebration of Issue 42. 

Kestrel: A Journal of Literature and Art, the Fairmont State University Department of Language and Literature, and the Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center will launch Issue 40 with a two-day celebration. 

On Friday, April 12, at 2 p.m., visiting writers will participate in a panel discussion in Jaynes Hall 310. A reception and readings will take place at the Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center from 5:30-8 p.m.

Kestrel: A Journal of Literature and Art, the Fairmont State University Department of Language and Literature, and the Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center will host a two-day symposium on the special theme of Issue 39, “Loved Labors Lost.” 

Kestrel, Fairmont State University's professional literary and art journal, has received a grant from the West Virginia Humanities Council, according to Dr. Donna J. Long, the journal's editor.
