Two Fine Arts Students and Professor to Participate in Summer Course in Finland

Two students and a faculty member from Fairmont State University will be traveling to Helsinki, Finland, to participate in a class on metal casting during the summer session.

The sculpture-oriented class is offered through Shepherd University and hosted by the University of the Arts in Helsinki. The sculpture departments and faculty of FSU and Shepherd have recently collaborated, often being invited or extending an invitation to pour metal at both campuses.

Student Printmaking on Display in Brooks Gallery

The Fairmont State University School of Fine Arts announces a comprehensive printmaking retrospective. The 109 prints included in this exhibition showcase the work of Fairmont State students over the past seven years, and the work represents students from both Printmaking I and Printmaking II. All work was done via the media available at on-campus print facilities, including linoleum relief, intaglio (dry points and etchings done on zinc plates) and polyester plate lithography.

Guest Lecturer to Visit Campus

Fairmont State University and the Department of Fine Art are excited to host the lecture “Absolutely no climbing on the art” by Adam Reed Rozan. Rozan will be a guest of the Gallery Management class on Thursday April 7th, and will conduct the lecture and discussion in Wallman Hall 411 at 2:30 pm.

FSU School of Fine Arts to Host Iron Pour

The Fairmont State University School of Fine Arts, in partnership with the West Virginia University School of Art and Design, will host its annual Iron Pour, “Sputnik’s Landing,” on Friday, April 8.

The event, which is open to the public, will take place at noon April 8 behind Duvall-Rosier field on the FSU campus.

Sesquicentennial Time Capsule Dedication Ceremony Set for Oct. 23

Fairmont State University celebrates 150 years of academic opportunity, tradition and Falcon pride during the Homecoming 2015 Sesquicentennial Celebration. The culmination of the celebration will be the Sesquicentennial Time Capsule Dedication Ceremony planned for 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23.

The Fairmont State University School of Fine Arts opens its spring 2015 gallery season with “clear, hold, build,” a solo show by FSU faculty member Jeremy Entwistle. The exhibit is on display through Thursday, Feb. 12, in the J.D. Brooks Gallery, located on the fourth floor of Wallman Hall. 

Entwistle received his B.F.A. from Alfred University in 1998 and his M.F.A. from West Virginia University in 2007 and is currently coordinating the FSU sculpture and foundry department. 

FSU to Participate in Fall 2014 Iron Pour

Fairmont State University and West Virginia University students will participate in the second annual Fall 2014 Iron Pour, hosted by the WVU School of Art and Design.

Fairmont State sculpture students, technology students and faculty members, as well as students and faculty from regional universities, will collaborate for the event and utilize molten metal to create custom-made metal artworks.
