FSU Welcomes Visiting Chinese Scholar

The Fairmont State University community and the Department of Language and Literature welcome to campus a visiting scholar from Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications whose year-long residency will begin Wednesday, Feb. 17.

Han Xiaohau, a professor of English, will teach a class on Chinese culture at FSU and, with the guidance of Dr. J. Robert Baker, will conduct research on teaching methodology and the study of American literature.

Governor's Honors Academy Opening Ceremony Set for June 28

About 200 high school juniors will participate in the 2015 Governor’s Honors Academy at Fairmont State University from June 29 through July 19. An Opening Ceremony will take place at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 28, in Gym 1 of the Falcon Center on the main campus.

Top high school seniors in North Central West Virginia and around the state have the opportunity to compete for Fairmont State University’s premier academic scholarship, the Dr. Charles J. McClain Presidential Scholarship. In addition, all of the state’s PROMISE Scholars are eligible for the PROMISE Beyond Scholarship.

2013 Student SURE Fellows Announced

Fairmont State University has selected five student research projects for funding under the Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) program.

Sara Davis, Jennifer Goggins, Courtney Swiger and Ian Williams have been named to hold the University’s prestigious SURE fellowships. They each will receive a stipend of $2,400 to conduct their projects between May 13 and June 30, 2013. Completed projects will be presented at the Celebration of Student Scholarship in April 2014.
