Fairmont State University has received a $5,000 grant to support the one-week Forensic and Analytic Chemistry Technology (FACT) summer camp for middle school students. This award was made possible by the West Virginia Science and Research, a division of the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission (WVHEPC), and the West Virginia Research Challenge Fund.

Tresa Weimer appointed to HEPC Financial Aid Advisory Board

Fairmont State University’s Tresa Weimer, Executive Director of Student Support Services, has been appointed to the Higher Education Student Financial Aid Advisory Board for the Higher Education Policy Commission (HEPC). 

Weimer currently serves as the Director of Financial Aid and Scholarships, oversees Admissions, Student Services, and Student Systems. Her position on the board was approved by the HEPC on December 5, 2019 and her term will run through June 30, 2022.

Fairmont State University has received a grant for $7,461.50 from the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission’s (HEPC) Diversity for Equity grant program to support the development of a new initiative to encourage females to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields.

Twin brothers travel to participate in FACT summer camp

Twin brothers, Isaac and Elijah Lanigan, from Brooke County, West Virginia, came to Fairmont State University to participate in the free Forensic and Analytical Chemistry Technology (FACT) summer camp. 

The mother of the sixth graders, Sara Roark was happy to bring them to camp, even though they had to stay in a hotel, since the camp was free and educational.

Dillon Bradley, Fairmont State University senior and president of the Fairmont State Student Government Association, has ben chosen as an intern for the Higher Education Policy Commission. 

As a double major in national security and intelligence and political science, he is looking forward to better understanding education and its ties with the political system.

Fairmont State University has been awarded $2,478 through the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission’s Diversity for Equity grant program to assist the University’s Veteran Services Office in starting a new engagement activity for students who have served in the military. Fairmont State will use the funds to provide outdoor recreation events for student veterans.
