Doddridge County natives and Fairmont State alumni, Dwight and Tina Moore, have donated $26,000 for the establishment of a new scholarship at Fairmont State University.
“It is through the generosity of the Moore family that future students will be able to attend Fairmont State. They truly understand the importance of education in becoming productive citizens,” said Fairmont State Foundation President, Gary K. Bennett.
Sidney and Judith Underwood of Parkersburg, West Virginia have pledged $27,000 to create a scholarship in memory of their son Eric, who passed away in July of 2020.
“The generous gift from the Underwoods is greatly appreciated. Their kind remembrance of their son will have a lasting benefit to Fairmont State students,” said Fairmont State Foundation President, Gary K. Bennett.
The Fairmont State Foundation serves as the non-profit organization that solicits and administers private donations on behalf of Fairmont State University, and recently welcomed five new members to its Board of Directors. New Board of Directors members include Kathy Martin, K. Alex Miller, II, Chad Riley, John Wilson and Dixie Yann.
The Fairmont State Foundation is honored to welcome Gary K. Bennett’s return as president of the Fairmont State Foundation, the nonprofit fundraising arm of Fairmont State University. He brings with him decades of experience as a CPA and an outstanding educator, along with a passion for the Foundation’s mission to serve the University and the greater Fairmont community.
A 1988 Fairmont State graduate honored his former advisor, professor, and mentor by establishing the Gary K. Bennett Scholarship for students who demonstrate outstanding promise in the field of accounting.
The Fairmont State Foundation held its inaugural Scholarship & Stewardship Banquet Friday night, celebrating a successful scholarship campaign and honoring more than a dozen donors by introducing them to students and faculty affected by their gifts.
The Fairmont State Foundation appropriately chose Giving Tuesday, the unofficial start to the holiday giving season, to announce a new scholarship campaign aimed at closing the gap between two- and four-year student scholarships. The campaign aims to raise $1.3 million over the next 12 months.
