Director of Athletics Chad Fowler and Vice President of Student Affairs & Athletics Tim McNeely announced two promotions within the Department of Athletics at Fairmont State University on Monday afternoon.
Fairmont State University's football contest against Notre Dame College on Thursday, Oct. 4 will be highlighted during this season's NCAA Division II Showcase, the association announced today. The game will kickoff at 7:05 p.m. at Duvall-Rosier Field.
On Thursday, Frostburg State University joined the Mountain East Conference following a unanimous vote of approval by the MEC Board of Directors. If accepted into the NCAA Division II process, Frostburg State would be slated to begin competition in the MEC beginning with the 2019-20 academic year. Full membership in the MEC will ultimately be contingent upon Frostburg State achieving active membership status in NCAA Division II.
Fairmont State University Athletics wrapped up the 2017-18 season with a fifth-place finish in the Mountain East Conference Commissioner’s Cup standings for the second-straight year. The fifth-place finishes in 2016-17 and 2017-18 mark the highest finishes for Fairmont State in the five-year history of the league.
The MEC Commissioner’s Cup measures overall athletic excellence among its membership based on each sponsored sports finish in the MEC standings.

Fairmont State Acting Director of Athletics Chad Fowler has announced the hiring of Micah Hornak as the new head coach of the men’s tennis program. Hornak was a two-time first team All-Mountain East Conference standout for the Falcons from 2015-17.
“We are excited to welcome Micah as our new men’s tennis coach,” said Fowler. “Micah is well known in the tennis community and his passion for the game is exactly what we were looking for while making this hire.
Fairmont State Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine & Game Day Management, Bob Cable, was inducted into the Mid-Atlantic Athletic Trainers' Association (MAATA) Hall of Fame on Saturday, May 19 at the Princess Royale Oceanfront Hotel in Ocean City, Md. Cable was one of five hall of fame inductees for 2018.
