About 250 students will participate in Winter Commencement for Fairmont State University at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, in the Feaster Center. A reception in the Falcon Center will immediately follow the ceremony.
Dr. Maria Rose, Fairmont State University Interim President, will host a reading by faculty authors at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, at the Shaw House on the shared main campus of FSU and Pierpont Community & Technical College. Dr. Elizabeth Savage, Professor English at FSU, and Debbie Benedetti, Associate Professor of English and Academic Studies at Pierpont, will read from their new works.

Fairmont State University has named Dr. Fred Fidura as Interim Vice President for Institutional Advancement. He began his duties this week and will serve until a permanent appointment to the position is made.

Fairmont State’s Interim President Maria C. Bennett Rose always knew she would be a teacher, but she never dreamed of becoming the president of a university, let alone her alma mater.
"Growing up I always wanted to be a teacher. I was one of those kids who played school," Dr. Rose shared. "Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would someday be sitting here."
At Fairmont State University, students are the first priority. A new campaign this fall with the theme “be First” helps share that message. The first campaign launch event took place Monday, Aug. 15, at the fall welcome meeting for faculty.
