Students come together to set a new record of debris collected on campus while contributing to the University’s sustainability efforts

Fairmont State Outdoor Recreation teamed up with the Fairmont State Tennis Team and Explorer’s Club for a campus clean-up event on Friday, October 16, where the volunteers collected a record breaking 762.8 pounds of debris and litter, earning 25 volunteer hours collectively. 

Fairmont State University receives grant for Campus Sustainability Projects

Fairmont State University’s Creative Sustainability Council (CSC), a campus organization focused on sustainability initiatives for the University and community, has been awarded a grant of $27,120 from the Appalachian Stewardship Foundation (ASF) to implement two sustainability initiatives on campus this summer. These initiatives have been designed in partnership with Aladdin Food Service and the Fairmont State Foundation.

Despite the pandemic, Fairmont State University’s Creative Sustainability Council has been working to ensure that the 50th annual celebration of Earth Day on April 22 does not go unnoticed. This year’s objective is to educate about sustainability practices, acknowledge efforts made thus far, and remain hopeful for the progress that is to come.  

Creative Sustainability to make sleeping mats for homeless shelters

The Creative Sustainability Council and Honors Program at Fairmont State University are working together to make string out of plastic bags to crochet into sleeping mats for homeless shelters. 

Angelica Starcovic, president of the Honors Program, said they hosted an event from 6-7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23 in the lobby of Prichard.
