Constitution and civil liberties discussed by FSU panel

This year the College of Liberal Arts decided to host a panel discussion entitled: “With Liberty and Justice for All?: The Constitution and Civil Liberties.” With the goal of prompting civil discussion across campus, the panelists aimed to shed light on various historical and contemporary issues related how and why the Constitution — and, specifically, amendments to it — has aimed to define and protect the civil liberties of American citizens.

FSU Constitution Day Project Awarded State Minigrant

The West Virginia Humanities Council has awarded Fairmont State University and five other nonprofit organizations minigrants in support of educational programming.

FSU’s award for $1,500 will support “We the People: The United States Constitution and Slavery,” a two-day event featuring a symposium and historical portrayals. Admission will be free and open to the public.

Fairmont State University will celebrate the 225th anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution with several events during the week of Sept. 17.

A panel discussion titled “Freedom of Speech in the 2012 Election,” sponsored by the Political Science Association, will take place in Hardway Hall Room 128 from noon to 12:50 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 17.

The Hon. Michael Aloi, Judge of the 16th Judicial Circuit, Marion County, gave a presentation in commemoration of Constitution Day titled “Citizenship and the Constitution.” The event is sponsored by Alpha Phi Sigma.

The event was from noon to 12:50 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19, in Multi-media Room A of the Ruth Ann Musick Library on the shared main campus of Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College.
