Fairmont State Collegiate Singers and Treble Chamber Ensemble to Present Virtual Holiday Cheer

The Fairmont State Collegiate Singers and Treble Chamber Ensemble will host a special online live streaming Concert of Holiday Favorites on November 19 at 7:30 p.m. The choirs will perform holiday classics conducted by Sam Spears, Director of Choral and Vocal Activities, and accompanied by John Morrison.  

Fête de Noël a Musical Holiday Celebration at Fairmont State

The Fairmont State Department of Music will present the sixth-annual Fête de Noël holiday concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, Colebank Hall.

The concert will include performances by the Collegiate Singers, Chamber Choir, African Drum and Dance Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble. It will also feature solos by FSU music students and children from the FSU Academy for the Arts.

Donations for the Soup Opera will be accepted at the concert.

Music Department Spring Gala Features Cantata "Carmina Burana"

The Fairmont State University Department of Music will present for its Spring Gala the cantata “Carmina Burana,” on Saturday, April 26, performed by the Fairmont State Collegiate Singers, Community Chorus and Wind Ensemble under the direction of Dr. Valarie Huffman. Also featured will be the Chanticleer Children’s Chorus of West Virginia. The professional soloists for the concert will be soprano Mandy Spivak, tenor Alec Carlson and baritone Paul Kreider.

Collegiate Singers and Wind Ensembles Perform Feb. 28 Concert

The Fairmont State University Collegiate Singers and Wind Ensemble presented a concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, in Wallman Hall Auditorium. The Ensembles performed “Sounds and Sweet Airs,” a concert of music inspired the writings of William Shakespeare. The Collegiate Singers sang settings of Shakespeare texts by Emma Lou Diemer, one of the grandes dames of 20th-century American composition, as well as John Rutter and Benjamin Cooke.

The Fairmont State University Collegiate Singers and Chamber Choir will perform in Wallman Hall Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18.

The ensembles are directed by Dr. Sam Spears and accompanied by John Morrison of the FSU School of Fine Arts. Admission is free and open to the public.

The Fairmont State University Marching Band, Collegiate Singers and Chamber Choir combined on Thursday, Sept. 5, for a campus performance of 4’33” by John Cage.

Sept. 5 was the anniversary of Cage's birth in 1912. Cage's work, which premiered in 1952, is sometimes hailed as one of the significant musical works of the last century.

Music Department to Present Three Spring Concerts

The Department of Music of the Fairmont State University School of Fine Arts will offer three concerts at the end of the spring 2013 semester.

On April 29, at 7:30 p.m. in Wallman Hall Room 229, the FSU New Music Students Ensemble, as well as guest performers, directed by Dr. Daniel Eichenbaum, will perform original works composed during the spring semester. The concert will conclude with a new work written on newly designed instruments from the course.

Spring Music Gala Highlights Students and West Virginia Folklore

The Fairmont State University School of Fine Arts Department of Music celebrates the spirit of musical connection with its Spring Music Gala at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 3, in Colebank Hall.

Admission is free to the performance with a donation to The Soup Opera. Representatives will be at the concert to collect canned goods and other donations. For more information, call (304) 367-4219.
