Professor Miles Leeson of the University of Chichester, UK will present a lecture, “Flesh/Flash: Novels, Navels, and Encoding Friendship” on Tuesday, February 20 at 4:00 p.m. in the Folklife Center, according to Dr. Angela Schwer, Chair of the Department of Language and Literature.
Six students majoring in English and English Education have won departmental research fellowships this summer, according to Dr. M. Angela Schwer, chair of the Department of Language and Literature. The six are Chelsi L. Latocha, Laura E. Morris, Lily M. Peterson, Joyanna N. Poe, Veronica Grace Ryan, and Thomas J. White.
The members of the Fairmont State University Common Book Committee are happy to announce the Common Book title for the 2013-2014 academic year. With the help of many wonderful recommendations from faculty and staff George Prochnik’s “In Pursuit of Silence: Listening for Meaning in a World of Noise” has been selected.
Although Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein” was first published in 1818 when she was 21, the novel’s content remains relevant to audiences today. For that reason, “Frankenstein” has been chosen as the Common Reader for the 2012-2013 academic year at Fairmont State University. The project will be complemented by a Frankenstein Film Festival and other events throughout the year.
The annual Celebration of Student Scholarship will be held on the shared main campus of Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College from 9:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, in the Falcon Center third floor conference rooms.
PROMISE Scholar Freshmen are invited to meet with their PROMISE Academic and Financial Aid Advisors, as well as the Director of Community Service Learning at one of two meetings scheduled for Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at 12:30p.m. in Hardway Hall (Rm) 219 and Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at 3:00p.m. in Library MMB. The meetings should last approximately 45 minutes. Pizza will be served.
