Scholarship Advice: "Don't Limit Yourself; Just Apply and Go for It"

Apply for any scholarship for which you think you may be eligible, advises Cynthia Hudok, Director of Financial Aid and Scholarships for Fairmont State University.

“Don’t limit yourself,” she said. “You just apply and go for it and put your name out there.”

Hudok said there are two keys to a successful scholarship application: apply early and make sure all of your information is filled out correctly.

“So many times we receive an application that is not complete and then we can’t award the students, and that is a situation we would like to avoid,” she said.

PROMISE Beyond Offers New Opportunities for PROMISE Scholars

West Virginia students who qualify as PROMISE Scholars can take advantage of a new scholarship program called PROMISE Beyond that aims to cover the full cost of tuition at Fairmont State University.

The scholarships awarded through this program would be a four-year commitment by the University, and students receiving these scholarships would be required to maintain a minimum GPA once enrolled at FSU.

Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin has proclaimed Oct. 1 through 5 as “College Application and Exploration Week” in the Mountain State in an effort to assist more students in preparing for education and training beyond high school.  More than 70 middle and high schools, colleges and universities, and community organizations across the state will host events and activities designed to help students and families in exploring and applying to higher education programs.
