The Student Juried Exhibition takes place at the end of each academic year. Its purpose is to provide an opportunity for students to compete by participating in a juried show, something which as artists they will continue doing for the rest of their lives.  

Concrete Canoe Team Moves on to National Competition

 Fairmont State University’s American Society of Civil Engineers Student Chapter continues its tradition of excellence and will again represent the region at the National Concrete Canoe Competition. FSU’s ASCE Student Chapter won first place in the Concrete Canoe Competition for the ninth consecutive year at the end of March at the Virginias Conference, hosted by Virginia Tech University in Blacksburg, Va.

Congressman McKinley Visits NSI Program

U.S. Rep. David McKinley visited Fairmont State University on Thursday, April 5, to speak to students in one of Dr. Greg Noone’s National Security and Intelligence classes and to tour the Open Source Intelligence Exchange lab, directed by David Abruzzino. OSIX is the laboratory and applied research component of the University’s National Security and Intelligence program. FSU is the first University in the state to offer a program of this kind.

If you have ever attended a play in Wallman Hall Theatre, you know that Fairmont State University has an active and dedicated Theatre program. During spring break 2012, all that enthusiasm and talent went on tour as part of an outreach program that the Theatre Department participates in every four years, bringing “Hush: An Interview with America” to audiences at Spencer Middle School, Blennerhassett Middle School in Parkersburg and Lewis County High School.

Jimbo Fisher to Highlight FSAA Spring Scholarship Banquet

Clarksburg native and Florida State head football coach Jimbo Fisher has been announced as the keynote speaker at the Fairmont State Athletic Association (FSAA) Spring Scholarship Banquet. The banquet will be held on Saturday, April 28, at 5:30 p.m., in Gym 1 of the Falcon Center. Tickets are $50 and can be purchased from an FSAA member or by calling (304) 367-4220. Net proceeds help support athletic scholarships at Fairmont State.

Students and Dr. Deanna Shields Honored at National Conference

“Sustainable Justice” was the theme of the 2012 Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences conference, which took place in New York City from March 13-17. Thirteen students from Fairmont State University’s Alpha Phi Sigma group attended the conference. Alpha Phi Sigma is the national criminal justice honor society, which was recognized over 25 years ago by ACJS as the future of the organization and holds a conference in conjunction with ACJS every year. While Alpha Phi Sigma offers its own activities, the students are free to participate in any of the ACJS events.

Fairmont State University student-athletes posted a graduation rate of 75 percent, according to the most recent data compiled by the NCAA.
