A long-standing tradition at Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College, Welcome Weekend is designed to provide incoming freshmen with the information they need to start their college experience moving in the right direction. Leading that charge is the team of more than 70 Freshman Counselors who today, Aug. 16, prepare to welcome hundreds of new students and their families as they begin their college journey.
Welcome Weekend for new students at Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College begins on Thursday, Aug. 16. The program is designed to provide incoming freshmen with the information they need to start their college experience moving in the right direction. Classes for the fall 2012 semester begin Monday, Aug. 20 (Saturday classes begin on Saturday, Aug. 18).
“SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!”… “You can’t bring that food in here.”… “We only have reference material.”
From the musky smell, to the hair buns, cardigans and complete silence, libraries bring to mind very distinct images and experiences. The staff members of the Ruth Ann Musick Library on the shared main campus of Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College have broken that mold, making the library a place for everyone.
Since becoming informed regarding the loss of accreditation at Mountain State University, the state’s higher education system, led by the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission, is leading several outreach efforts to assist displaced students.
The majority of Fairmont State University's student-athletes will spend their summer breaks doing the same thing – training and working hard to hone their respective skills in their chosen sport in preparation for next season.
In July, the Fairmont State University Town & Gown Summer Theatre will present the popular musical “South Pacific,” with music by Richard Rodgers and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II.
Continuing the longstanding tradition of high quality outdoor theatre performances at Prickett’s Fort State Park, Town & Gown Summer Theatre will honor veterans and members of the U.S. Armed Forces with special ticket prices and special recognition at each performance.
“Town & Gown Summer Theatre is an important educational, as well as entertaining, endeavor. The School of Fine Arts hires students from Fairmont State and other colleges and high school interns, and all learn to work as a team to bring about a successful production,” said Peter Lach, Dean of the School of Fine Arts. “Part of the University’s mission is to strengthen the educational, economic and cultural well-being of our region. The School of Fine Arts is proud to partner with Prickett’s Fort State Park to provide outdoor theatre for North Central West Virginia. We also are proud to salute our nation’s veterans through this summer’s production.”
A total of 1,172 students were named to the Dean’s List at Fairmont State University after completing the spring 2012 semester.
Dr. Christina Lavorata, Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, has released the Dean’s List.
These full-time students are being recognized for academic distinction by earning a 3.4 or better grade point average. Full-time students achieving a perfect 4.0 grade point average also have been named to the President’s List.
