At Fairmont State University, students are the first priority. A new campaign this fall with the theme “be First” helps share that message. The first campaign launch event took place Monday, Aug. 15, at the fall welcome meeting for faculty.
Welcome Weekend for new students at Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College begins today, Aug. 18. The program is designed to provide incoming freshmen with the information they need to start their college experience moving in the right direction. Classes for the fall 2011 semester begin Monday, Aug. 22.
Fairmont State University students and faculty will benefit from a new partnership with Mobile Collaborative Education Consulting and the IBM Academic Initiative.
“As a result of this partnership, Fairmont State faculty will gain access to innovative technology, and our students will receive first-class learning opportunities to prepare them for today’s competitive marketplace,” said Dr. Maria Rose, FSU Interim President.
Rose and John Thompson, president/owner of Mobile Collaborative Education Consulting (MCEC), signed a partnership agreement on Aug. 11.
Fairmont State's women's swimming team has been named a Scholar All-America Team by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA).
To qualify as a CSCAA Scholar All-America squad, teams must post a GPA of 3.0 or higher for the previous semester. Fairmont State had a team grade-point average of 3.12. The Falcons were one of 34 teams in NCAA Division II to qualify for the recognition.
Two Fairmont State University students attended an academic seminar hosted by The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars in Washington, D.C. Logan Thorne, a political science major, and Nicole Allison, majoring in criminal justice, attended the “Top Secret: Challenges to National Security in a Global Society” seminar held May 15-21. The seminar is meant to provide students a guided experience of the national security landscape. Both students are members of the Honors Program.
Two members of the Fairmont State University Fishing Falcons will compete in the National Guard FLW College Northern Division Regional Championship in September 2011.
The Fairmont State University American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Student Chapter completed a grueling three days of competition at the ASCE’s 24th annual National Concrete Canoe Competition over the weekend of June 16 in Evansville, Ind.

A total of 1,062 students were named to the Dean’s List at Fairmont State University after completing the spring 2011 semester. These students are being recognized for academic distinction by earning a 3.4 or better grade point average. Students achieving a perfect 4.0 grade point average also have been named to the President’s List.
