During two recent performances in Morgantown, the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra recognized Fairmont State University as a Student-Centered Arts Learning (SCALE) partner.
The Orchestra’s SCALE program links music and other disciplines, such as math, science, writing and art, using the music of the Young People’s Concert as a thematic guide. The program is correlated with West Virginia’s Content Standards and Objectives for elementary classrooms.
In collaboration with the International Education Committee, the Office of International Student Services will host a reception on Friday, Dec. 13, for international students graduating from Fairmont State University.
The reception will take place in the Falcon Center third floor Board Room from noon to 1 p.m. Graduating international students from Korea, Nepal and Saudi Arabia will be recognized and celebrated.
The Fairmont State University Community Chorus, directed by Dr. Sam Spears, will perform a Service of Lessons and Carols at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, at First Presbyterian Church, 301 Jackson St., Fairmont.
Admission is free and open to the public. A goodwill offering will be collected at the event. For more information, call (304) 367-4219.
About 150 students will participate in Winter Commencement for Fairmont State University at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, in the Feaster Center. A reception in the Falcon Center will immediately follow the ceremony.

"Rocket Boys The Musical" runs Friday and Saturday, Nov. 15 and 16, at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday, Nov. 17, at 2 p.m.; and Wednesday through Saturday, Nov. 20 through 23, at 7:30 p.m. in Wallman Hall Theatre on the main campus of Fairmont State University. The Office of Student Activities, which serves the students of Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College, is hosting a presentation by Frank Warren of PostSecret on Tuesday, Dec. 3.
