The Fairmont State University College of Liberal Arts and the Faculty Welfare Committee are hosting a community panel to discuss the issue of individuals possessing and concealing firearms on college campuses on Wednesday, Sept. 14.
With the theme “There’s No Place Like Fairmont,” Fairmont State University will celebrate Homecoming 2016 from Thursday, Sept. 29, through Saturday, Oct. 1, with a variety of events for students, alumni, faculty, staff and the Falcon community.
The West Virginia Symphony Orchestra returns to Fairmont for its 14th season on the Fairmont State University campus on Monday, Sept. 26. Maestro Grant Cooper, will conduct the Fairmont program titled “Folk Traditions.”
“Women’s Voices: Memory in Motion,” an evening of stories about love, injustice, tenacity and survival, opens in September at Fairmont State University. Created by students working under the direction of Dr. Francene Kirk, the original theatre piece is based on interviews with women who are age 55 and older.
The Fairmont State University Academy for the Arts fall term will begin the week of Sept. 5 through Nov. 12.
Course offering include a wide variety of classes for ages 3 to adult in visual art, music, theatre and hip hop dance. Private instruction is available for ages 5 to adult in acting, studio art and music (all instruments including voice). Instruction on select instruments is available at the Gaston Caperton Center in Clarksburg.
The traditional Homecoming Parade for Fairmont State University presented by the Office of Student Activities will begin at 6:15 p.m. Thursday, Sep. 29, in downtown Fairmont. This year’s Homecoming theme is “There’s No Place Like Fairmont.”
The Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center at Fairmont State University will officially open a new exhibition, “From Mountain Roots….” in its Ruth Ann Musick Gallery from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9.
Admission to the opening reception and the exhibit is free and open to the public. The exhibition will be on view through mid-February 2017. For more information, call (304) 367-4403.
