As the first member of his family to get any kind of college degree, he obtained a B.S. from Purdue University, an M.S. from Washington State University and a Ph.D. from Utah State University. All degrees are in Animal Science, with a specialization in early embryonic metabolism. He has one amazing daughter, Amanda, who was born in 1991 and who was married in the summer of 2015. He started at Fairmont State in the fall of 1994 as an Assistant Professor of Biology and has since been promoted to the rank of Professor and received tenure. He has finished several marathons and a couple of ultra marathons (30 miles or more). He says, "I love what I do and I hope to continue teaching for a long time!"
