I have worn many hats in life and have learned from my many experiences dealing with people and different situations. I worked my way up through the ranks as a miner (from laborer to Assistant Mine Foreman for Consol with over 150 people working for me), a realtor, an estimator, a land developer, a creator and manager of my own business, and now as the Academic Lab Manager for the College of Science & Technology at FSU.
I attended WVU in my early years and later came back to FSU to earn a degree in Civil Engineering Technology, and it was here where I became a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). I graduated with honors and was also inducted into Epsilon Pi Tau, EPT. As Academic Lab Manager for the College of Science & Technology at FSU, I saw the opportunity to become even more involved with the students and their engineering competitions. I served 3 one year terms of office in the WV Northern Branch of the ASCE as Vice President, President, and Past President supporting WVU and FSU in networking and engineering competitions. Even though we supported both Universities, my heart was always with the FSU Engineering Technology students. I helped with other EPT induction ceremonies.
As the Academic Lab Manager for the College of Science & Technology, I enjoy helping the ASCE and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Student Clubs in acquiring funds, materials, services, and contacts. These contacts have allowed the clubs to be more competitive in their engineering competitions against larger, well known, and better financed colleges and universities. The ASCE Student Club dominated the regional competition for the last 13 years and went to Nationals. The ASME Student Club is also making their mark. I feel proud I was a part of it all.
In life, I have found that you just can’t sit back and wait for something to happen, YOU have to get out, get off your duff and make things happen. Life is too short so enjoy every minute of every day. You never know what the next day will bring. I love most anything that involves interaction with other people from Texas Holdem Tournaments, basketball, softball, dancing, motorcycling, teaching ski school at Wisp as a Level I Professional Ski Instructor to so many other things to numerous to mention.
