Biography:
At Fairmont State, I majored in Chemistry and performed undergraduate research, which consisted of developing a procedure for measuring the estrogenic properties of pesticides. After completing my B.S. in 1999, I went on to perform my graduate studies at Ohio State. My graduate research consisted of studying the mechanisms of toxicity of combustion generated particles (diesel exhaust particles and coal ash particles) on the lung following respiration. This research led to several publications. I graduated from Ohio State on December 12, 2004, with a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry. I am currently working as an investigator at the Edgewood Chemical Biological Center (a division of the Army Research Laboratory) in Edgewood, Md. My current research interests include the development of non-toxic smokes for use by the Army during training and other exercises.
What advice would you give current or prospective students?:
Make the most of your time in college. It is the best time of your life, make sure you enjoy it!
What was the most important thing you learned while attending Fairmont State?:
Fairmont State provided me with an invaluable foundation in Chemistry with a strong emphasis on individual research and study.
