Professor Long joined the faculty in 1999. She received her degrees from The University of Tampa (B.A., English and Writing) and The Florida State University (Ph.D., English Renaissance literature; M.A., Creative Writing). At Fairmont State she teaches a wide range of literature and writing courses. She has a particular interest in early modern women's writing and culture and in devotional poetry. Professor Long also writes poetry and her work has appeared in numerous journals. She advises English education majors, is advisor for the student art and literary journal, Whetstone, and is an associate editor of Kestrel: A Journal Devoted to the Fine Arts.
Beyond the classroom, she enjoys hiking, bicycling, cooking and reading.
