Dr. Joseph Shaver, Ed.D., NCSP, Professor of Psychology, joined the faculty of Fairmont State during the fall semester of 1988. He received his B.S. degree in General Psychology from Fairmont State; an M.S. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Central Florida; a Certificate of Advanced Study (C.A.S.) in School Psychology from the West Virginia Graduate College; and an Ed.D. in Educational Psychology from West Virginia University. Prior to his faculty appointment at Fairmont State, Dr. Shaver had been employed as both a School Psychologist and Special Education Director for two county school systems as well as a Staff Psychologist and Clinical Assistant Professor for the Departments of Pediatrics and Neurology at the West Virginia University Medical Center. In addition to his duties at Fairmont State, Dr. Shaver serves as a consulting psychologist to the West Virginia Departments of Corrections, Education, Disability and Human Services as well as various county school systems in the area. He also continues to hold clinical appointments with Marshall University Graduate College and West Virginia University Medical School. He and his wife, Dr. Ann Shaver, operate a part-time private practice. Dr. Shaver’s professional areas of interest include psychoeducational and neuropsychological assessment, behavioral intervention techniques and the neuropsychological correlates of learning and emotional disorders. He is a licensed professional psychologist by the State of West Virginia and also holds state and national specialty certifications in the area of School Psychology.
