K-Love the Poet is an internationally renowned Spoken Word Artist/Motivational Speaker who made her 2003 debut in the heart of Chicago’s vibrant poetry scene. She also has titles to her credit of actress, author, and mentor; Since 2015 more than 3 videos of her work have gone viral. Her signature poem entitled " Million Dollar Melanin," is currently trending on the internet as well as empowering people of color with over 900k views. Other accounts of her work have been featured in a variety of publications including Ebony/Jet and the Chicago Suntimes.
As a performer, she has shared the stage with such legends as Angela Davis, Ameena Mathews, Ava Muhammad, Jessie Jackson, Common, Chaka Khan, Kelly Price, Slick Rick, Doug E. Fresh just to name a few. She’s a regularly featured artist in more than a dozen cities across the nation. She has been a featured artist on several albums, including one produced by Good Music, Kanye West’s recording label. The African Festival of Art, Caribbean Festival of Life, The West Side Music Festival and The Black Women's Expo are just a few traditional Chicago events that have welcomed her talent. In addition to general online searches, her work can be seen on her self-released DVD, Broken Cycles 33:1. K-Love is also the recipient of several awards for her community work and humanitarianism.
Despite her tremendous success as a performer, her greatest source of pride is the work she does with young people. In 2009 she co-founded LYRIC Mentoring (Let Your Rhymes Inspire Creativity), a grassroots endeavor that has become one of the most impactful youth movements in Chicago. Youth from LYRIC have also performed nationally, tackled critical issues such as violence and mental health, and embodied a set of life skills and acts of community involvement that are directly attributed to K-Love’s guidance and mentorship. In 2015 she focused her attention to mentoring young girls through her PRINCESS Program, and videos featuring their lessons in self-esteem and cultural pride have gone viral after being shared by icons such as Michael Baisden and Fantasia. K-Love authored the book, For Smart Mouth Little Girls (scheduled for 2017 publication), to broaden the audience for the values taught in her PRINCESS Program.
In recent years, K-Love’s poetry has also been a valuable tool in efforts of social change and she has lent her talents in solidarity with groups like Black Lives Matter Chicago and Inner City Muslim Action Network. Highly sought after, K-Love speaks to the hearts and minds of all souls who desire empowerment. She is available for speaking engagements, youth trainings, workshops, and live performances; due to her passion for her work, she has been able to accommodate most budgets.
