The Frank and Jane Gabor WV Folklife Center Awards

 

B.B. Maurer WV Folklife Scholar Award

The Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center is pleased to have created an annual award given to a West Virginia or regional indvidual who has made significant contributions in the area of cultural and folklife studies. The Honorable Robert C. Byrd, US Senator, was the first recipient of the award in 1999. The second award was given in the Spring of 2001 to Dick Schnacke the "Folklorist of Fun." The 2002 award went to Jean Ritchie, traditional folksinger and musician. The 2003 award went to John Henry Randolph, Folk Arts preservationist, educator and artist. Patty Looman received the 2004 award, traditional dulcimer musician and educator. The 2005 award went to Dr. Ken Sullivan, writer, editor, historian, humanist Executive Director, West Virginia Humanities Council. Nominations for this annual award may be made to the West Virginia Folklife Center at Fairmont State, 1201 Locust Ave., Fairmont, WV 26554.
