As I sat on my overstuffed suitcase to zip it up, the reality that I would be in D.C. for the Presidential Inauguration Seminar finally set in. I had not been overly nervous up until that moment when what seemed a dream became a reality. I was going to be in our nation’s capital for the first time in my life by tomorrow. Being able to visit such a place during a historical moment in the making is certainly a blessing.

I have always had a love for history, so being able to attend this seminar is nothing short of a wonderful opportunity. As I learned that I had been given this chance to be in the middle of this historical event, I thought about being able to tell my future students about how I was actually there during one of the most important times in American history. As a future social studies teacher, I realized that being able to tell students of an eyewitness account of a historical event is a unique opportunity that not many people can say they have been given.

All I can say for this upcoming week is that it is truly an exciting experience to be had. I feel truly blessed to be given the chance to visit D.C. for the first time, and to visit during such an exciting event as the Presidential Inauguration.

My name is Caitlin Teetor and I am from Scott Depot, West Virginia. I am currently a sophomore in the Honors Program at Fairmont State. I am an education major and hope to eventually teach social studies to high school students one day.
