WELCOME TO THE ACADEMIC ADVISING CENTER -

Students come to Fairmont State University or Pierpont Community and Technical College with diverse needs and varied backgrounds. This diversity calls for individualized assistance whenever possible to help students develop into self-directed and independent learners. Many new students enter, undecided, without a declared academic major; some return to college not sure the old major still fits.

The Academic Advising Center provides undeclared majors with a place in which to explore the many academic majors and related career possibilities available at FSU and Pierpont C&TC. The Center offers its resources and support to prospective students, new students, currently enrolled students, and students who are "between" majors.

The professional staff of faculty advisors is trained and committed to assisting students, full and part-time, as they begin their academic experience. Advisors help students understand academic policies and programs, and develop an interaction which promotes shared responsibility for meeting the student's objectives. It is the desire and purpose of the Academic Advising Center to help students recognize their academic strengths and weaknesses, establish realistic goals, and identify the courses and resources necessary to achieve these goals.

The Academic Advising Center, located in Room 218 Hardway Hall, is open on weekdays throughout the year, 8 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with evening appointments available upon request. Students may visit the Center at any time to seek assistance, or call 367-4709 to set up an appointment with an advisor. We want to be part of a rewarding educational experience for you at Fairmont State!
