Our Compass for the Future
Strategic Plan 2006-2011 Mission, Vision and Core Values
More than just words on paper, this Strategic Plan is a “living and breathing” guide to move us forward as an institution and a community. Its purpose is not to collect dust on a shelf, but to act as a compass for our faculty, staff, students, and friends as we, collectively, create the future of Fairmont State University, including Pierpont Community & Technical College.During the first year of the Strategic Plan (2006-7), we had some successes, encountered a few obstacles, and learned many things.
Implementation Teams worked throughout 2006-7 to implement the Plan’s first year timelines and action steps. In the spring of 2007, Audit Committees were formed with broad institutional representation. These committees reviewed the Year One reports of the Implementation Teams and offered their thoughts on whether we successfully moved forward during the first year.
The Implementation Teams and the Audit Committees also offered suggestions and recommendations for adjustments to the Plan as we moved into Year Two. These findings were discussed at a Stakeholders Conference on April 27, 2007. Conference participants, drawn from faculty, students, staff and community representatives, provided guidance for moving forward.
Now, in Year Two, the Strategic Plan Steering Committee has taken the Conference’s recommendations and is using them to continue to guide the process. Implementation Teams renewed their efforts to breathe life into the Year Two timelines and action steps. Audit Committees reviewed their work this spring in preparation for our Stakeholders Conference on April 25, 2008. As always, links to the most up-to-date strategic planning information will be found on our web site at www.fairmontstate.edu/StrategicPlanning.
I want to thank all of those who helped develop this Plan, those who have worked to implement it, and those who have provided honest assessment of the Plan’s effectiveness. Working together, we will continue to “SOAR” at Fairmont State and serve our students, the region and the State of West Virginia.
Best wishes,
Dr. Daniel J. Bradley
