Pre-nursing studies prepare students to apply for the Associate Degree of Science in Nursing (ASN) at Fairmont State University.  The pre-nursing curriculum allows students the opportunity to take pre-requisite and general studies courses.  The schedule of classes is individually designed based on the student’s previous high school and/or college coursework.

Pre-Nursing students will be assigned to Academic Advising Center for assistance. 

In order to be admitted to the Pre-Nursing program, students must meet the following requirements:

  1. Meet Fairmont State University's general admission requirements including the minimum ACT, SAT or COMPASS scores.


     

  2. All remedial work must be completed successfully  (ENGL 0097; MATH 0093, 0094, 0095).
  3. Have and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.

    - The minimum 2.0 GPA will be recorded for those with GEDs only.
    - College cumulative GPA will be recorded for those with more than 10 college credits.
    - High school GPA will be recorded for those with less than 10 college credits earned.
    - LPN program GPA will be used for the LPN applicants.
     

  4. Declare Pre-Nursing as their major. 
  5. If a student’s cumulative GPA drops below 2.0, the student will be moved to undeclared as a major. and will be assigned a new advisor from the advising center.
