The Department of Communication and Theatre Arts offers the Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Arts. This interdisciplinary program includes a core of required courses in communication and journalism such as group communication, argumentation and debate, participatory journalism and social media, and contemporary storytelling. In addition to the core, students choose a four-course specialization track with the help of an advisor. Students may choose from one of the following concentrations: government communication, health communication, sports communication, performance communication, public communication, multimedia communication, or visual communication. The degree program culminates with an internship that allows students to put their communication knowledge and skills to use in business, non-profit, and media arts. The Department of Communication and Theatre Arts also provides hands-on opportunities for students through the public speaking, oral interpretation, and debate teams. This is a liberal arts degree. The Department also provides a minor for the students with an interest in communication.
