The World Languages Department of the Fairmont State University Academy for the Arts supports and encourages students as they learn languages and cultures that are important to the arts worldwide. Courses are arranged to introduce students to languages using the communicative approach and the standards of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages. Through age-appropriate activities, highly qualified instructors motivate students and kindle in them a desire to understand more about the world in which they live.

My First French Class
Discover the world through another language ! Exposure to French and other languages at an early age promotes creativity, self-expression, and thinking skills. Participate in a fun-filled week that makes language learning enjoyable with activities, songs and games.
Fun Family French
Learn French with fun activities to bring home for the whole family. Teach your parents what you learned in class ! Suitable for all levels and ages, students will be grouped together as families for the class activities organized around a daily theme.
Refresh your French : The Global Tour
Have you taken French classes but need to brush up ? Getting ready for college or high school classes ? This session is designed to review basic French structures and build on existing knowledge at all levels. Emphasis on learning language through exploring the cultures of the French-speaking world. Option for a one or two-week session.
Spanish
Students will learn the basics of Spanish through a variety of structured activities and role-play, as well as physical activity that includes dancing, soccer, and singing. They will play games, listen to music, learn basic steps to dances, learn tips about Spanish food, and see pictures to compare and contrast with other cultures. Basic Spanish speaking will be exercised within all topics.
