The Mission of the Theatre Arts Preparatory Department of The Fairmont State University Academy for the Arts is to provide quality instruction in the theatre arts based on a sequential, age-appropriate curriculum taught by qualified instructors. In cooperation with the Town and Gown Youth Company, the Theatre Arts Preparatory Department also provides students opportunities to apply their leaning in an environment that fosters teamwork, creative thinking and professionalism.

Creative Drama
Using source materials such as books, songs and poems, children will create improvised stories under the direction of a drama instructor. This class will also include drama games, movement and improvisation activities that encourage concentration, working together, listening and creativity. This course may be repeated. The source material will change each semester.
Improvisation
Students will create solo, partner and group scenes using improvisation techniques. In this course, students will explore listening and reacting, creating character, dialogue, pantomime and story building.
Acting for Teens
In this course, student will explore basic acting skills including concentration, listening and reacting, physical and vocal awareness and character develop. It will also include basic improvisation and open-scene work. This class may be repeated.
