Academy for the Arts - Theatre Preparatory Department

The Mission of the Theatre Arts Preparatory Department of The Fairmont State University Academy for the Arts is to provide quality instruction in the theatre arts based on a sequential, age-appropriate curriculum taught by qualified instructors.  In cooperation with the Town and Gown Youth Company, the Theatre Arts Preparatory Department also provides students opportunities to apply their leaning in an environment that fosters teamwork, creative thinking and professionalism.

The Fairmont State University School of Fine Arts will host the fall 2014 West Virginia Art Educators Association members art exhibition in the Brooks Memorial Gallery, located on the fourth floor of Wallman Hall in October.

Art educators from across the state will display drawings, paintings, sculpture, fiber arts and more from Oct. 7 through Nov. 14. The opening exhibition will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14. Admission is free and open to the public.

The name “Sleepy Hollow” conjures images of the awkward school teacher, Ichabod Crane, on his bedraggled horse being chased through the dark woods by the Headless Horseman. It is fitting that the Fairmont State University production of “Sleepy Hollow,” a musical based on Washington Irving’s short story, “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” opens on Halloween.

Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin announced that Fairmont State University was awarded an Arts Partner grant in August 2014 to support a concert featuring the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra.

Dr. Christina Lavorata, FSU Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, attended a ceremony at the West Virginia State Capitol to receive the check for $7,200. The Arts Partners grant provides general operating support to long-standing, stable arts organizations.
