Department of Communication & Theatre Arts
~ Oral Communication Education

If you want to coach a high school speech and debate team or if you see yourself directing the high school play, this degree program is for you. Oral Communication majors have the best of all worlds taking courses in communication, theatre and education. Your course work will be complemented with opportunities to act, design or work backstage on our main stage or studio theatre productions. You will gain experience that will prepare you to coach your own teams as you travel with the public speaking, oral interpretation or debate teams to competitions. In preparation for your West Virginia 5-12 teaching certificate, you will work on the annual FSU High School Invitational Forensics Tournament and spend time in local schools assisting teachers in their efforts to bring the spoken word to life. Recent graduates are teaching theatre and communication in public schools and attending graduate school in the areas of theatre for youth, acting, school counseling and school administration.
