Services

The AIMSS program works with each student to develop an individualized plan to support personal and academic goals. The three areas of focus include: academic skills, social skills, and daily living skills.

Academic Support

  • Building self-advocacy
  • Recognizing and requesting reasonable accommodations
  • Learning to communicate effectively with professors
  • Developing visual schedules and other organizational skills
  • Planning for homework, studying, and test-taking
  • Using study area exclusively for AIMSS students
  • Receiving course selection recommendations
  • Mentoring individual students

Social Skills Support

  • Get assistance with involvement in on-campus activities, groups or organizations
  • Form bonds with AIMSS students and staff through a variety of available activities and/or meals
  • Participate in individual and small group mentoring

Independent Living Skills Support

  • Gain independence during the transition to college and adulthood
  • Learn and practice effective skills to use in dorms
  • Participate in foundations groups that teach independent living skills
  • Advise individual and small groups on common skills such as housing responsibilities, nutrition and exercise, proper sleep, and financial planning.

Program Fees

The AIMSS program fee is $5,000 per semester. 

Scholarships for the AIMSS program are currently unavailable. However, The Division of Rehabilitative Services (DRS or “Vocational Rehabilitation” as it is known in some states) sometimes have funding opportunities. They have their own referral and application process.  It is recommended that you begin by contacting the Division of Rehabilitative Services in your home state.  If you are interested in speaking to the branch office in Fairmont, WV, see the contact information below.
