Teacher Education
The education of teachers at Fairmont State University is designed to utilize the cooperative functions of the academic disciplines with the School of Education. We believe that adequate preparation for teaching requires a rich and comprehensive experience in general education, a concentration in at least one academic specialization and certain attitudes, knowledge, skills and dispositions which characterize effective teaching.

Exercise Science
The Exercise Science major integrates the theories and practicalities of exercise physiology in preparing graduates for a career in this field. The program relies on a scientific core which allows the student to gain a complete understanding of human physiology and how exercise impacts that physiology. This understanding of the science of human movement/physiology is coupled with essential hands-on experiences that culminate in an internship in a health/fitness/wellness facility.

Family and Consumer Sciences (non-certification)
The discipline of Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) combine the natural and social sciences when it empowers individuals and families across their life span to manage the challenges of living and working in a diverse global society. FACS at Fairmont State is either a BA in Education 5-Adult or a BS in FACS. There are five areas of study within the discipline. They are Clothing and Textiles, Foods and Nutrition, Housing and Home Furnishings, Human Development and the Family, and Management and Consumer Economics.

Health Science
The Health Science program of study provides theoretical and practical training experiences in the study of the human body throughout individual and social growth, development and aging processes. Developing expertise in the areas of health promotion, behavioral risk, disease occurrence, prevalence, and prevention at the community, regional, state and national levels are study foci throughout the program. Training opportunities develop abilities toe recognize and respond to the socialization of risky behaviors that jeopardize community health, then to analyze behavioral risk and design and implement various individual and group behavior change plans to reduce health disparities.
