Through the generosity of our alumni, friends, and former faculty members there are a number of Scholarships and Awards available to students in our programs.  To apply for scholarships you need to complete and submit the scholarship application to the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships by the first Monday in February prior to the Fall Semester. The application is available on the Foundation Scholarships page on the FSU Financial Aid website or may also be picked up from the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships or Student Services in the Turley Student Services Center.

Eddie & Betty Barrett Endowed Scholarship

  • Must have completed 64 hours with a minimum cumulative 3.4 GPA or higher, and accepted into the Teacher Education Program
  • Non-traditional student (any student 23 or older)
  • Financial need
  • Must not be receiving any other scholarship or aid from the Foundation
  • Non-renewable

Dorothea Poling Brand Endowed Scholarship

  • Full-time student at FSU enrolled in Elementary Education with a 3.0 GPA
  • Renewable up to 4 years

Will Bridges Memorial Endowed Scholarship

  • Two scholarships are to be awarded each semester, one in Language and Lit and the 2nd in the School of Education
  • GPA of either 2.5 in high school if an incoming freshman or returning student at FSU
  • WV resident
  • Renewable but not guaranteed
  • Minority student are encouraged to apply
  • Must demonstrate financial need

Crystal-Miller-Morris Scholarship Endowment Fund

  • Students must have completed their first year with a minimum of 24 hours and GPA of 2.75
  • Renewable for years three and four if students are registered for twelve hours

Nancy Marie Duling Memorial Teacher Education Endowed Scholarship

  • Full-time student admitted to Elementary Education
  • West Virginia resident; preference given to Grant County residents
  • Minimum overall GPA of  3.0 or higher
  • Junior Elementary Education Major, minimum 58 hours completed

Martha Flesher Endowed Scholarship

  • Major in a Teacher Education program

Wendell G. Hardway Award for Excellence in Teacher Education

  • Admitted to the Teacher Education Program
  • 3.5 GPA or higher with 96 hours completed
  • West Virginia Resident

Marjorie R. Hoult Lough Endowed Scholarship

  • Must not be receiving any other scholarship or aid from the Fairmont State Foundation
  • Full-time student in a four-year degree program
  • Major in Teacher Education with a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or higher

Margaret MacLuckie Scholarship

  • An undergraduate Math Education major
  • An undergraduate Math major who, in the late junior/senior year decides to pursue a graduate education degree to teach math
  • An applicant for the M.A.T. program to pursue a Math certification
  • An undergraduate Elementary Education major who is seeking a Math endorsement

Sharon Weaver Messmore Endowed Scholarship

  • Applicant must be a Fairmont Senior High graduate attending FSU with a sound academic record
  • Preference to an Education major, but not limited to that field

T. J. & Madge Herndon Pearse Memorial Endowed Scholarship

  • Full- time junior or senior major in Elementary or Science Education with a 3.0 GPA or higher
  • Financial need
  • West Virginia native

The Victor & Mary Carr Rancinger Endowed Scholarship

  • Full-time student in Elementary Education
  • Financial need
  • Preference to students who are West Virginia residents

The Haddon and Nettie Morgan Rhodes Endowed Scholarship

  • Freshman student(s) recipient must declare themselves as Elementary or Secondary Education majors and complete the necessary coursework to be accepted in the Elementary Education Program or Secondary Education Program at Fairmont State as sophomores
  • Recipient must have a minimum ACT score of 21 or a SAT equivalent of 990
  • Preference to a West Virginia high school graduate with a high school GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Must maintain a minimum 2.75 GPA as a freshman and a 3.0 or higher GPA thereafter
  • Renewable, and financial need may be considered

The A. and L. Hawkins Graduates Student in English Award

  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Enrolled in graduate degree program in teacher education with the intention of teaching English at the middle-school or high-school level
  • 3.0 GPA

Ruth M. Skaggs Award

  • Pursuing a baccalaureate Family and Consumer Sciences degree
  • Must have successfully completed at least 26 hours with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Financial need
  • Not available to students whose parents and/ or spouse are/is an employee of FS

Glenn & Elsie Toothman Endowed Scholarship

  • Preference to incoming freshmen but upperclassmen  may also apply
  • Award amount divided evenly between the School of Education, Health and Human Performance and the College of Science and Technology

Helen Romano Viggiano Elementary Education Endowed Scholarship

  • Full-time student
  • Pursuing a degree in Elementary Education with a lifelong commitment to classroom teaching
  • Must have entering GPA of 3.0 or higher and maintain that GPA to seek renewal
  • May be eligible to renew the scholarship for a maximum of eight semesters
  • Primary, but not exclusive, consideration will be given to students with demonstrated financial need as determined by the Fairmont State Office of Financial Aid

The Stark A. Wilmoth Outstanding Student Teacher Award

  • Outstanding student in teacher education who has demonstrated the skills and potential necessary for strong leadership in the classroom.
