Biography:
I graduated from Grafton High School in 2003 and am a May 2005 graduate of the Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. I have recently become certified by the American Society for Clinical Pathology as a Medical Laboratory Technician. Currently I am pursuing a Chemistry degree from FSU and am employed at Ruby Hospital as a Laboratory Assistant. I plan to use this degree as well as my love for the laboratory in order to further my education by going on to medical school and specializing in Pathology. While in the MLT program, I held the office of President of the MLT Student Association. This program is a great opportunity for people who like the lab but may not be sure what they want to do with their lives. The two year program allows you to graduate and get to the workplace as soon as you can, or you can continue on in school and build on your knowledge. I am staying involved with the MLT program by helping in student labs. Additionally I am a member of the American Society Clinical Laboratory Science, the West Virginia Society Clinical Laboratory Science, the American Chemical Society and ASCP. I am also an active member of Boothsville United Methodist Church where I am in the choir.
What advice would you give current or prospective students?:
Even when times are hard and you wonder if you will ever make it, never give up because you can do whatever you put your mind to.
What was the most important thing you learned while attending Fairmont State?:
Handle the things that need to be done first, and let the rest fall into place. This involves time management, careful planning and using the utmost care while making choices.
