HOW TO CONNECT

To connect to our wireless network, you will need to connect to our wireless VPN.

Requirements:
You must be running Windows XP or Vista, Mac OS X v10.2 or later, or Linux RedHat 6.2 or later. You must have 50 MB of hard drive space available, and have at least 128 MB of RAM. Your network card must be 802.11b and/or 802.11g compatible. You must install the Cisco VPN client on your computer to connect to the VPN.

 

Windows Vista Cisco VPN client installation instructions:
Please read all instructions before downloading the client

1. Download the wireless VPN profile by right-clicking here and choose Save Target As

2. Save the file to your hard drive where you can later locate it, and ensure you choose File Type: All Files

3. Download the VPN client (see link at end of instructions). You will need to enter your UCA and password when prompted for a username and password. Note, if your UCA does not work, try prefixing it with STUDENTS (example: STUDENTS\jdoe98).

4. When asked to run or open the file, choose run.

5. Click Unzip

6. Click OK

7. Click Allow

8. Click Next

9. Accept the license agreement, and click Next

10. Accept the default destination folder and click Next

11. Click Next

12. Click Finish

13. Allow your computer to restart

14. When your computer restarts, click Start, All Programs, Cisco Systems VPN Client, VPN Client

15. In the VPN client, click the Import button

16. Find the FSUWirelessVPN.pcf file you saved in steps 1 and 2 and click Ok

Windows XP Cisco VPN client installation instructions:
Please read all instructions before downloading the client

1. Download the VPN client (see link at end of instructions). You will need to enter your UCA and password when prompted for a username and password. Note, if your UCA does not work, try prefixing it with STUDENTS (example: STUDENTS\jdoe98).

2. When asked to run or open the file, choose run.

3. The installation process is completely automated. After installation, your system will automatically reboot.

*The faculty/staff version of the VPN client is for users whose computers are owned by Fairmont State University. It enables the auto login option, which causes the VPN client to show before you are prompted to login to your computer. This allows you to authenticate with the wireless so that you can continue to login to the Windows Active Directory domain. Users who are using their own computers will typically not want this option enabled.

5. Click the Import button at the top of the VPN Client window and choose the FSUWirelessVPN.pcf

Connecting to the VPN:

1. Ensure you are connected to the wireless network FSU

2. On Microsoft Windows XP, the VPN client should immediately prompt you for your uca and password

3. If the client does not automatically launch, or if you are not using Microsoft Windows XP, start the Cisco VPN client by locating it under the Start Menu, Cisco VPN Client or under Applications on Mac OS X and then click the Connect button

4. Once you are prompted for your username and password, if you are a student, for username type STUDENTS\uca where uca is your account name. If you are faculty/staff, for username type FAIRMONTSTATE\uca where uca is your account name. Then enter your password and click ok.

5. When you are done, you can right-click the lock icon in your system tray and choose Disconnect, disconnect from the FSU wireless network, or simply turn off your computer

 

If you already have the Cisco VPN client installed:
These instructions are for users that may be using company laptops

1. Download the wireless VPN profile by right-clicking here and choose Save Target As

2. Save the file to your hard drive, and ensure you choose File Type: All Files

3. Open the Cisco VPN client

4. Click the import button and choose the FSUWirelessVPN.pcf file you saved to your hard drive
