Fairmont State University utilizes Google Analytics to track web site data. Reports are setup and configured to mail to various departments at the beginning of each month.
Understanding Your Report
New Users - This is the number of users that have not visited the web site previously, have an expired identifier, or have deleted their identifier.
Users – These are anonymous people that visit the web site. Users receive an identifier when visiting the site and the identifier persists until it expires or is deleted. This allows to differentiate between new users and users.
Map - This map provides a high-level overview of where visitors are located. The shading shows difference between high volume and low volume areas.
Sessions - A session is a group of interactions that take place on your website within a given time frame. A single user can open multiple sessions. Those sessions can occur on the same day, or over several days, weeks, or months. As soon as one session ends, there is then an opportunity to start a new session.
% New Sessions - This is the percentage of new sessions based on the type of device.
Avg. Session Duration – This is the average length of time for a session. (view above for information on sessions)
Pages/Session - This is the average number of pages viewed per session. (view above for information on sessions)
Pageviews - This is the number of times users view a page that has the Google Analytics tracking code inserted. This covers all page views; so if a user refreshes the page, or navigates away from the page and returns, these are all counted as additional page views.
Unique Pageviews - The unique pageview number counts all the times the page was viewed in an individual session as a single event; so whether a visitor viewed the page once in their visit or five times, the number of unique pageviews will be recorded as just one.
