Hometown:
Scherr, West Virginia
High School:
Petersburg High School
Why Attend?:

I chose to attend Fairmont State for several reasons.  Growing up it was assumed that I would follow in my family tradition of attending Fairmont State.  I wasn’t sure I wanted to follow tradition, but when I went to visit the campus I fell in love with the small size and “homey” feeling, the student- to- teacher ratio, and the wonderful Honors program.  I knew that Fairmont was the choice for me.

Most Surprised:

I was surprised at the visiting hours in the dorms.  I thought that the hours would be earlier in the morning and earlier in the evening.  The “signing” people in for the weekend was also a new concept for me.

Experiences:

My Honors experience has been good.  Everyone has been really nice and helpful.  I feel comfortable in this new experience because I am confident that if I have any questions or problems I can go to any Honors upperclassman and get answers.  The brief meetings held have made me look forward to the coming year’s events with anticipation.

Advice:

In choosing a college, my advice would be to find one that has a really strong program in your area of interest.   It is also important that you choose a college that you feel will be compatible with your personality.  Some people are comfortable in a large college where they blend in with the crowd and others need the comfort of being more than a face in the crowd.

Difference between courses:

In high school, the only really challenging courses were the college courses that were offered my junior and senior year.  I have never had a lot of homework.  With this first week of Honors courses, I can tell that I am going to learn to think critically and spend more time on homework.  The Honors courses are definitely going to be a challenge.
