Hometown:
Fairmont, West Virginia
High School:
East Fairmont High School
Why Attend?:

The reason I chose to attend Fairmont State University is due to its relative location to my home.
Additionally, I chose to attend because I enjoy a school with generally small class sizes and overall
population. Also, FSU was the only school in the area that offered the type of major that I want to
pursue.

Most Surprised:

Since I arrived at Fairmont State, I have been surprised at the amount of class participation that the
professors have encouraged during class lectures. This class participation helps students understand
material that may prove to be difficult if attempted alone.

Experiences:

So far, my Honors experience has been a positive due to the small class sizes and, as a result,
individualized attention by the instructors. Additionally, being in a small class allows for one to get to
know other exemplary students and form lifelong friendships with other Honors students. Honors also
pairs students with an upperclassman mentor, who will assist in showing a student the ropes, and set
them up for success at FSU.

Advice:

When looking for a college that is suitable for you, think about the pros and cons about the schools in
your vicinity. Also, attend orientations for several schools so you can decide if a certain school is right
for you.

Difference between courses:

So far, I have noticed that Honors courses require students to use more analytical thinking than in high
school classes. This thinking allows students to learn more content at a faster, yet more in-depth pace.
