Rich Newbrough was a four-year letterman in football from 1955-58. He led the Falcons in passing and total offense and each of his three seasons as the starting quarterback. Newbrough would go on to be a highly successful coach at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario. He posted a 47-23 record in 10 seasons at the helm of the Golden Hawks program, leading the team to four Ontario Universities Athletic Association championships and a Canadian Inter-University Athletic Union national championship in 1991. He was also the Canadian Inter-University Sport Coach of the Year in that year. Newbrough also spent time as the school’s athletic director and the Golden Hawk stadium, Knight-Newbrough Field, bares his name as well as another Fairmont State alum, Dave “Tuffy” Knight.
