Designers

How designers copy content in Blackboard Vista?

IMPORTANT INFORMATION BEFORE STARING PROCESS

We do not copy content from another instructor's course without written permission. (Example: Professor X calls to request the content from Professor Y's course coped into his/her section. This action cannot be performed without written permission from Professor Y.)

We do not copy content across disciplines without written permission. (Example: Professor X calls in to request the content from GEOG 3315 copied into HIST 1107. This action cannot be performed without written permission from the Geography department's dean or chair.)

Copy Content Process--Designers have two options for setting up sections for the new semester.

  1. If the designer is currently associated with a section of the course in Vista they can copy the content directly into the next section.
  2. If the designer does not have a section in Vista they should apply the Fall 2008 Master Template. (DO NOT apply Fairmont State Master Template it is a corrupt file and will not allow the template to copy).

Begin copy content process

  1. Log into Blackboard Vista.
  2. Select the section. The designer will be given four options how they would like to put content to their section. There are only two options that designers will be able to use sucessfully. (READ the following carefully!)
    1. Set up a blank course. NEVER SELECT THIS OPTION!
    2. Copy content from another course. Select this option if designers have a section that have the content for the course.
    3. Assign a template to this course. Select this option if designer does not have a section in Bb Vista.
    4. Import content from file. NEVER SELECT THIS OPTION

Copy content from another course.

  2. Click Continue. A list of templates will appear.
  3. Select the radio button for Fall 2008 Master Template NEVER CHOOSE Master FSU Enhanced Course Template
  4. Click Continue.

What to do if the designer does not see the Section in the Copy Content List.

NOTE: by default, the couse list only displays 10 sections at one time. To vew the remaining sections do the following:
  1. Click the dropdown list in lower right hand corner.
  2. Select the numer of sections or select (All)
  3. Click the green arrow beside the list box.

  2. instruct that Copy Content be entered in the short description.

What if designer receives Unexpected System Error This indicates a corrupt file in the section the designer is attempting to copy from. The file needs to be unsubscribed. NOTE: Thes error mainly occurs due to links being subscribed in the Orientation or Graphics folders. These folders are automatically placed in each course section. Hit [Enter] key, which should bring up the log-in screen. Type your UCA and password.

You can now drag your files to our ftp site and also drag and retrieve files from our server to your desktop.

MAP-Works

Students who received an email from MAP-Works are the eligible ones, assuming they have activated their campus email account.

Usually students who are having trouble are not eligible for one of the following reasons.

  1. The student is part-time. Only full-time students (at least 12 hours) are eligible.
  2. The student has transfer credits greater than 14 hours. Sometimes they forget about these until you help them log into Felix to look.
  3. They are readmits under certain criteria…so this isn’t their first real full-time attempt at FSU/Pierpont.

If students really seem to be eligible, send their name(s) to Dr. Erica Harvey eharvey@fairmontstate.edu she will try to find out what is going on.
